But this car is different. This is the first BMW car that uses both engine and electric motor.
BMW i8 has carbon fiber reinforced plastic body, makes it is very light but rigid, aerodinamically optimized body, and BMW eDrive Technology that can offers 0-60 mph/ 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds using both engine power and the electric motor.

i8 has 2 different engines: 3 cylinder 1500cc TwinTurbo engine that can develop maximum power of 170 kw/ 230 HP and the electric motor specially developed and produced by BMW Group for BMW i and it has 96 kw/ 131 HP and maximum torque at 320 nm from standstill.
Something special from the i8 is, the electric motor can also power the vehicle itself at the top speed of 120 km/h/ 75 mph and can run as far as 35 km/ 22 miles in case you run out of gasoline in the road.
i8 has many different driving modes: SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO.
SPORT mode offers manual gear selection, makes the suspension hard to give greater handling, engine and electric motor works together, power boost from electric motors fully delivered to enchance maximum power, and acceleration response surely will be faster.
Comfort mode offers the balance between performance and efficiency with unrestricted access to all convenience features.
Meanwhile, the ECO PRO mode offers high fuel efficiency, power train controllers coordinates between gasoline engine and the electric motor to develop maximum efficiency. In the same time, ECO PRO also programs electrical convenience functions, like the A/C, heated mirrors and seat heater to run in lowest energy consumption without compromising safety.
By the way, the maximum range from the full tank and the battery is fully charged, is more than 500 km or 310 miles in COMFORT mode, but in ECO PRO mode, that maximum range can be increased about 20%.
